Hamza is a son of Montgomery County. The child of immigrants, he grew up in a family shaped by both resilience and responsibility. Over the past twenty years, Hamza has stepped away from his career and dreams of higher education time and time again to help support his family and care for his siblings. Those years instilled in him a deep understanding of sacrifice, dignity, and what it means to fight for stability when everything feels uncertain. Through it all, Hamza never lost his belief in service. He went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from UMBC and later a Master of Arts in Democracy & Governance from Georgetown University—driven not just by ambition, but by a commitment to serve and lead. Hamza's work has always been about bringing people together. He built lifelong relationships across faiths—work he continued alongside Black, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Latino and Muslim community leaders throughout Montgomery County. He believes deeply that our diversity is not a challenge to overcome, but a strength to embrace. That belief has guided his work in public life. From protecting Ten Mile Creek, to helping pass the Maryland Juvenile Restoration Act, to advocating for immigrant communities through the Maryland Trust Act, Hamza has been on the front lines of the fights that matter. On the national stage, he has taken those values into the public square—appearing on major news networks, including Fox News, Al Jazeeraand being featured in outlets such as The Washington Post and NPR, where he has defended working families and immigrant communities at the highest levels of public discourse. But for Hamza, public service is not abstract—it is personal. As a caregiver to siblings with special needs, he understands firsthand the pressures families face navigating healthcare, education, and economic uncertainty. That lived experience drives his commitment to building a county that works for everyone—not just the well-connected. Now, Hamza is running for Montgomery County Council at-large because he believes this is a moment that demands leadership rooted in both experience and empathy. This means fighting to make housing more affordable, strengthening our public schools, supporting working families, and ensuring Montgomery County remains a place where opportunity is real—not promised. It also means restoring a sense of shared purpose—where people from every background feel seen, heard, and valued. Hamza believes Montgomery County can lead again—not by looking backward, but by stepping forward together.
